In light of the disgrace that was the beheading of Nick Berg, America, and in particular, American troops, must appear beyonf reproach. Their actions and words must be free of vengeance, spite or malice. They must abide by the rules of war.
To reciprocate the horrendous acts of those who choose to drag the bodies of dead troops through the streets and incinerate them, and who choose to blow their own people up with car bombs, is to lower themselves to the same barbaric level. Remember, some of these Iraqi prisoners are the people who worked for Uday and Saddam Hussein torturing and depriving their own people of any rights or dignity.
As tempting as it might be to smack some sense into a captured Iraqi, the temptation must be restrained. Why? Because if the Coalition of the Willing want to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, it must be seen to be the white knight, not the evil sheriff.
According to the New York Times, the CIA think they have idenfied the murderer. The CIA need to act on this themselves, not by getting the troops to do their dirty work for them.
